Toccoa Falls’ run at a region championship came up short on May 13 to Warner University, 9-4. The Screaming Eagles had defeated Selma University (13-3) and Emmanuel College (10-3) to advance to the region championship round.
A first inning error proved costly for the TFC defense as Warner (31-27) opened up the scoring with six runs in the bottom of the first inning. After scoring a run in each of the 4th, 6th, and 7th innings, Toccoa had trimmed Warner’s lead to 6-3, but TFC was unable to complete the comeback as Warner pulled away in the 7th and 8th innings.
Senior AJ Mussler (pictured above) continued his hot hitting in the tournament with two hits in four at-bats, including a solo home run in the 8th. Mussler also doubled and scored twice. Nathan Stanley collected two hits and a RBI.
Ryan Larrazabal took the loss from the mound for TFC and pitched 7 innings, allowing 8 runs, 6 earned, and striking out five.
By winning the south region tournament, Warner University received an automatic bid to the NCCAA World Series, while TFC (21-23) will hope to earn an at-large bid to the tournament.
