Baseball: TFC tops Selma in tournament opener, 13-3

Toccoa Falls College baseball opened the NCCAA south region tournament with a 13-3 victory over Selma University on May 11.  The Screaming Eagles entered the tournament, hosted by Emmanuel College, as the two-seed, and the Selma University Bulldogs were the three-seed.  Behind 14 team hits by eight different players, the Screaming Eagles advanced to the winner’s bracket of the double elimination tournament.

First baseman Luke Allen and left fielder Nathan Stanley  each had three hits for TFC, and Allen scored three runs and Stanley scored twice and drove in two more.  Josh Slate scored two twice, as did AJ Mussler.

On the mound, Dylan Powers pitched a complete game and allowed eight hits and three earned runs while striking out three and walking one.

With the opening game victory, TFC advances to face the winner of Wednesday’s #1 Warner University versus #5 Trinity Baptist College.  Toccoa will face the winner at noon on May 12.
