The Toccoa Falls College baseball team will travel to nearby Franklin Springs, Georgia, on May 11-13 to participate in the National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA) south region tournament, hosted by Emmanuel College. TFC (19-21) will enter the tournament as the second seed and will open tournament play on May 11 at 1:30 against third-seeded Selma University (26-10).
Also on Wednesday, #4 Emmanuel (8-42) will square off with #5 Trinity Baptist College (11-28) at 11AM. The winner of that game will advance in the winner’s bracket to play top seed Warner University (27-27) at 4PM. With the double elimination format, the loser of the TFC/Selma game will play Wednesday at 7PM, and the winner will face the winner of the 4PM game on Thursday at noon.
On the year, TFC’s offense is led by juniors Nathan Stanley and Zach Zillweger. Stanley has 45 hits for a .326 average with 20 stolen bases and 22 runs scored. Zillweger is hitting .319 with 35 runs batted in, seven doubles and ten home runs from his spot in the heart of TFC’s lineup.
On the mound, Josh Slate (5-3) has recorded 45 strikeouts, allowed 13 runs in nearly 50 innings pitched, and has an ERA of 2.37. Dylan Powers (4-4) has an ERA of 3.50 in 72 innings pitched and has struck out 54 batters.
The winner of the south region tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCCAA World Series, and the runner-up will be hoping for an at-large bid to the tournament in Mason, Ohio (May 25-28). Toccoa Falls won the World Series in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013 and has attended the World Series each year since 2008.
This will be the final region tournament for seniors Josh Frye (#24, Hartwell, GA), Adam Rasmussen (#7, Clearwater, FL), Brady McMichael (#27, Monticello, GA), and AJ Mussler (#2, Melbourne, FL).
